2025 Pixley ka Seme District

Pixley ka Seme District “Great Debate”

Six De Aar High School learners proudly participated in the Pixley ka Seme District “Great Debate”, which took place on Saturday, 25 October 2025, at the Pixley ka Seme Municipal Council Chambers.

These amazing young minds competed against eight other schools from across the district - stretching as far as Hopetown, Douglas, Prieska, Hanover, and beyond.

The debate comprised two categories: Junior and Senior. DAHS was able to field two teams, both coached by Miss Confidence Moseki.

In the Senior Category, Llené Festus, Faith Pieterse, and Lilitha Qayi represented DAHS, opposing the motion:

“South Africa is on the right track to achieving zero tolerance towards corruption as per the National Development Plan of 2030.”

They skilfully defended their stance and ultimately achieved third place in the entire Pixley ka Seme District.

In the Junior Category, Lithe Yekani, Zimbonge Adonisi, and Cherise April opposed the motion:

“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the right path to innovation and prosperity in South Africa.”

They debated passionately with strong, well-reasoned arguments and secured second place in the district.

A key highlight was Zimbonge Adonisi, who was awarded Best Speaker in the Junior Category. 🏆

Congratulations to these remarkable young minds who demonstrated hard work, critical thinking, and outstanding teamwork.

Sincere appreciation goes to the Department of Education and Mr. Luvo Manona for creating a platform where young people can develop their public speaking and reasoning skills based on factual evidence. Gratitude is also extended to the adjudicators, fellow debaters and their coaches, and the respectful audience who supported the event.

“Words ignite; debates enlighten.”

This rang true as each participant showcased intellect, confidence, and passion throughout the competition.
